Roman Scout Camp Cambridge - Sat 1st July
The Imperial Romans were invited to the weekend Roman Camp of the Wolf Cubs & Pathfinder Scouting Group in Cambridge run by Paul Nimmo (ex-Ermine Street Guard). Pete Rogers, Martin Layzell, and Clinton Smith generously donated their time to instruct the boys in the finer points of the Roman army, discipline and warfare. The boys camped overnight, shared a fire-cooked meal, and explored Roman life (technology, games like Merels and Mia, making roman shields, wax tablets etc).
The Roman gladiators fought in the arena, with the young challenger Petronius the Pict fighting as a Retiarius net-fighter with trident against the old champion Glaucus the Grey fighting as a Thraex with the deadly sica curved-sword. A battle for the ages before the cheering crowd!
