OPEN STREETS FESTIVAL - Karangahape Rd - May Day
The annual Auckland Open Streets Festival saw Karangahape Road closed to all traffic as a pedestrian freeway with a carnival atmosphere and live performers. Brutus and Josephus were on legionary patrol to help promote love of the Emperor. We had a lot of selfies taken with a great variety of citizens, from hordes of rowdy barbarian kids keen to hold the swords, to a sweet little old transvestite - after all, this is still K Rd, the ancient red light district of Auckland. We also had good interest from potential recruits to fight as gladiators, and some very knowledgeable ladies that really knew their stuff, one a classics teacher at a Catholic school and the other at a Jewish college. It is great how the Pax Romana brings everybody together.
