Hamilton Gardens - Saturn's Day XXVI Month of Mars
We visited Hamilton Gardens on a glorious sunny day to take some promo shots of Romans and gladiators. The Romans attracted quite a crowd wanting selfies, and it was difficult to get pics without moderns suddenly popping up! Here we see the entry has a pond with the famous bronze Capitoline Wolf of Rome suckling the twins Romulus and Remus.

The Romans pose in the Italian Gardens Pavilion, and in the Arena Theatre.
The gladiators sparring in the theatre arena attracted a sizable audience, and even though this was not a proper fight, the crowd still cheered loudly and gave a (almost) unanimous thumbs-up for life.
The first bout starred Glaucus the Grey (Martin Layzell) fighting against Amam the Egyptian (Jason Saunders).

Gladiators enter the arena. The three gladiator match between the fierce Murmillo (Jason Saunders), Retiarius (Pete Rogers) and Hoplomachus (Martin Layzell) became a bloody free-for-all!

Often being a gladiator is just one long hard flog.
