Dave's maximus LXX Felix Natalis!
On Saturday night the Radiant Cafe in Glen Eden hosted Dave the Roman's big LXX birthday party, all organised by his tireless wife Judy. We had a good old sing-a-long to live music, and one legionary even let slip his sacred oath to reveal to the startled guests what some of the lyrics to the Latin Roman Marching Song meant. Dave reminisced on his long life, his storied teaching career, his trips to India to provide scientific aid, and of course his many victorious campaigns in the Roman army fighting for Caesar. The club presented Dave with a giant signed card, a customized gladiator cup depicting Decebalus the Dacian from the NZ Gladiator School, and the Palm-leaf of Victory along with an engraved commemorative wooden sword - the rudis gladius of freedom! It was a great night of many happy returns. Spero te et hunc natalem et pluimos alios quam felicissimos acturum esse - we wish your birthday and many more to be the happiest possible!
