Armistice in Cambridge - 11th to 13th Nov, Anno MMXVI
The annual Armistice in Cambridge commemorates the end of WWI in 1918 on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11 month. Many military re-enactment groups from all over NZ attend, including warbirds flying overhead and this year Peter Jackson's replica tank. All three branches of Imperium-Romana contributed to the event.
The Civitas Romanus set up the Vicus to run the kids' activities that included wear a Roman helmet, write on a wax tablet and fire a Roman manuballista at a fierce barbarian to save Rome! Lisa was overwhelmed by children clamoring to take part.
The NZ Gladiator School's Pete Rogers erected a gladiator display pavilion and fight-cage with a training-pell where the gladiators could spar before the watching public.
Our Roman legion Leg VI Ferrata teamed up with our brother-legion Leg X Fretensis to construct a well-guarded authentic Roman camp consisting of twin rows of legionary tents, some made of real leather, to display typical camp life.
