ARMISTICE IN CAMBRIDGE, 8-9 NOVEMBER 2014
Once again Legio VI Ferrata formed a joint-camp with our brothers from the V Cohort of the X Legion. Our large Roman camp was entered through a wooden gate where a soldier often stood above on sentry duty, and was surrounded by the protective wall of sudes (aka vallus). We had a steady stream of curious public throughout the day, and we gave explanations and demonstrations of the Roman and gladiator gear.
Our Roman display was supported by a large number of Romans in full seg armour performing military maneuvers on the battlefield that culminated in drawn swords clashing against a castorum shield wall.
The NZ Gladiator School display consisted of three pairs of fighters - Vic Ricendaal (Lucius the Damned) vs David Layzell (Decebalus the Dacian), Chris G (Jorkellus) vs Petra White (Idunna) and Peter Rogers (Petronius the Pict) vs Martin Layzell (Glaucus the Grey). It was Chris and Petra's first public gladiatorial display and Petra's first time as gladiatrix. Members of the Sable Harts participated in the display as archers.
