Glen Eden Xmas Parade - Saturnday XIX
The Imperial Romans once again marched down the main street in the annual Glen Eden Xmas Parade. The day threatened rain, but just a light mist enveloped us, much like marching through the Teutoburg Forest with the thronged crowds as the cheering barbarians (to quote Jason).
We carried two pilums and six parade shields, which always look impressive when locked together advancing in rank on the enemy. Our marching saw the line "ad unum" as one then split "ad duo" into two parallel lines, and then back again. We stopped periodically wherever there was a good-size crowd grouped, turned and saluted them with "Hail Glen Eden! Merry Christmas!" and this always elicited a big cheer in response. Then we added "Have you paid your taxes?" which got a big laugh.
This was a fantastic day, and a great way to kick off the Festive Season. Hail Glen Eden! Merry Christmas!
